Functional Medicine Plan

🔹 1. Glycemic & Lipid Control

  • Diet:
  • Low-glycemic, Mediterranean-style or low-carb (50–80g/day) until HbA1c <6.0%
  • Emphasize: fiber (30g+), omega-3s, cruciferous vegetables, anti-inflammatory foods
  • Supplements:
  • Berberine 500 mg BID
  • Alpha-lipoic acid 300–600 mg/day
  • Omega-3s (EPA/DHA 2–4g/day)
  • Ceylon cinnamon or gymnema
  • Niacin (inositol hexanicotinate) or red yeast rice (if no statin)



Testosterone & SHBG Optimization

  • Lifestyle:
  • Strength training 3x/week
  • Reduce alcohol, optimize sleep
  • Labs to add: Estradiol (E2), LH/FSH, prolactin, DHEA-S
  • Supplements:
  • Zinc 25–50 mg/day (watch copper)
  • Vitamin D3 5000 IU/day + K2
  • Boron 3–6 mg/day
  • Ashwagandha or Tongkat Ali

🔹 3. Iron & Anemia

  • Possible causes: Malabsorption, GI loss, frequent donation, poor intake
  • Replete with:
  • Iron bisglycinate 25–50 mg/day with vitamin C
  • Check reticulocyte count, TIBC, and stool for occult blood
  • Add B6 and copper if repletion is slow

🔹 4. Cardiovascular Support

  • Methylation Support (if homocysteine is high or if MTHFR variants suspected):
  • Methyl B12, 5-MTHF, P5P
  • Additional:
  • CoQ10 100–200 mg/day
  • Magnesium glycinate 300–400 mg/day
  • Citrulline malate or beetroot for nitric oxide support

🔹 5. Detoxification & Mitochondria

  • Support Phase I/II liver detox:
  • Milk thistle, NAC, DIM, calcium D-glucarate
  • Mitochondrial nutrients:
  • PQQ, acetyl-L-carnitine, CoQ10, methylene blue (under guidance)

🔹 6. Peptides (advanced/integrative)

  • BPC-157: Gut, vascular & metabolic support
  • Thymosin alpha-1: Immune modulation
  • CJC-1295/Ipamorelin: Support endogenous GH if fatigue, belly fat present
